Celebrate your Destination Wedding and include a few of the well known traditions.  They add a little fun and romance when planning your wedding.  Especially if you are planning a Destination Wedding.  The old rhyme refers to the things a bride should wear on her wedding day to have a happy marriage.  The saying dates back to an old English rhyme.  The oldest written reference found was dated in an 1871 issue of the St. James Magazine.  Sometimes the last verse is forgotten so you may not have heard that part in the past.  The sixpence is a symbol for prosperity for the new couple.

Something OLD

Something old is about your past.  Consider wearing something that belongs to your mother or grand mother as this is sentimental.  It may be a piece of jewellery, such as a necklace, pin, earings or a charm bracelet.  If your mother still has her veil that could also be an option to consider.  Another option could be a classic fragrance you wore on your first date or a wearable 1st gift.

Something NEW

Something new introduces you to the future and brings good luck.  It is less about sentiment and more about optimism as you start your new life together.  Finding something new is easy.  Almost anything is new including your gown.  You may prefer to pick something you can continue to wear such as a necklace or another jewellery item.

Something BORROWED

Something borrowed indicates that you will embrace happiness where you find it.  You are borrowing the happiness of those around you.  Usually, it would be an item another bride has worn that is in a happy marriage.  What does a friend or your mother/mother in-law have?  Maybe a nice clutch bag or a tiara from their own wedding day.  Some sources also say the items are meant to ward off other suitors.  I have seen many of those Garter themed photos, have you?  In England, brides usually wear a garter as that is usually the main traditional item for this part of the rhyme but it can be anything you choose.

Something BLUE

Blue has always been a colour of purity & fidelity.  Theres no shortage to the areas you can showcase a little bit of blue.  You could add a blue bow to a garter or other under garment or hide it in the bouquet or head dress.  How about a blue pair of shoes? Baby blue wedding day lingerie or a pop of blue nail polish for your manicure.
